Sometimes they gorge themselves to death on catch fence, such as this example of a 458 Italia losing it big time into the fence going into Turn 5 at Road America during last weekend’s Forza Challenge Club Racing. The driver walked away.

Part of this is due to the fact the 458s can’t run any aero packages in this series. This car was doing over 160 mph when it crested the hill (there is a speed board that spectators can see.) The catch fence did an amazing job of keeping everything out of the row of spectators, and the safety and maintenance crews kicked butt at getting the fence repaired and the racing back on the track. Over 100 feet of fence was damaged, and it took over 300 feet of fencing to temporally replace it. The schedule was changed around to the repairs being the lunch break, and the remaining races of the day weren’t delayed.
I was there but didn’t see it, if anyone has any other questions...
